Traditions

Christmas is that time of year when we get to see our family, celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, and participate in family traditions! While I strongly believe that Christ has gotten lost in this season, I also think it’s important to celebrate him!

In the bible there were parties all the time, feasts, that were normally in remembrance of something, such as Passover. I think celebrating his birth is the best way to show Jesus you remember all he did, by coming to this earth as a baby.So I thought I would share some of my family traditions with you!

The first thing we do to start off our Christmas season is decorate our house, we put up our little nativity scene. This year my little sister out it up. It has been in our house ever since I could remember.

Jesus always gave to the less fortunate in the past years we have done this charity around Christmas. It is one of my favorites because it is so personal! I love going shopping and praying for the little kid who is going to get my shoe-box. It’s a great way to give back to people who don’t have a lot. http://www.helpthechildren.org/hunger-in-our-world/christmas-shoebox?gclid=COqHnIWgiq0CFQkaQgodsVuZlA

Another one (which we just did yesterday) is make a gingerbread house! Its one of my favorites although I don’t think Jesus ever made one, its messy, yummy, and smells wonderful. I always put a C somewhere on the house. The first letter of my name.

We also make cookies for our pastors and mentors in our life, this is another one of my favorites (ok I love them all) it’s a very small way to say thank you! In our family there are always secrets around this time and no one is allowed in anyone else’s closet! Those are a few of my favorite traditions; I would love to hear yours!

Reverence for God

In my last post I talked about purity of the mind which is the first step to living a pure life. One thing I must let you know is that purity isn’t a one deal thing you don’t sign a contract once and that’s it your pure for the rest of your life.

No, purity is a daily trial. It’s not easy and that’s why the world doesn’t encourage it. Now God gave us all a gift! Not a talent, although I know many wonderful Christians who have been blessed with amazing talents! But that doesn’t matter, not everyone who was born can sing or dance or be athletic or any other talent. This isn’t a talent it is a precious gift. Your purity. EVERYONE is born with this! Guys, girls, defected babies, you and me!

God did his part, giving you his gift of innocence. It is our job to protect it. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.” Did you catch that? Against ourselves! God gave us purity so we may protect ourselves. While the world doesn’t hold any value on purity and abstinence, it is the greatest gift God had given any one of us!

2 Corinthians 7:1 says “Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates the body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence to for God.” I hope that you put as much value on purity as I do, not out of fear of pregnancies or diseases but out of reverence for God! Don’t make purity an obligation that “kills the fun” Not at all! Make purity the center of your life so you can enjoy your life as God intended!
