The Perfect Example

We are called to love, because he first loved us. 1 John 3:16 says “This is how we know what love is; Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brother.” Jesus gave the ultimate definition of love, blameless and pure he died for us, the sinners. While this love can never be matched we can strive to be more like Jesus. Loving people and having compassion for them is something that we all have to work on.

There is always that one person that just gets on your nerves! We are called to love those people, the ones who talk while you’re trying to read. The people who cut you off on the freeway, the people who bump into you and just keep walking in the store. While these people are annoyance they need to be shown Jesus’ love just as much as the people who are dealing with a natural disaster, or are going through a divorce. Everyone needs to be shown God’s love. That’s why we are here! To spread around his love!

I’m not saying you have to go around giving hugs to random strangers on the street, that could be dangerous and you might end up in the nut house. What I am saying is, even though it doesn’t come naturally to love the people who irritate or hurt us. We have to. Why? God showed us mercy and love when he sent his son. As 1 John says ‘we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers’ that’s how much we should love people! Just as Jesus did.

As Christians we want to be as much like Jesus as possible. I challenge you, have compassion on your enemy’s. Try to find the real reason you bump heads. Jealousy? Anger? Replace it with love, once you do, you will see that person in a new light. Ask God to show you people as he sees them, you will see them differently. Once you see people as Jesus does, the love will come naturally! Romans 12:9-10 says “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil and cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Never give a person the ability to say ‘I’ve never been shown Christ’s love’
