Try Harder!!

Purity is essential to our spiritual life, it has to be! Anything impure can’t be close to God. First off we need to have pure minds, once we cleanse our thoughts, pure actions will flow more naturally. Romans 12:2 says “Do not confirm any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

So the first step is cleaning our mind of any negative thoughts. We have to completely renew our way of thinking! If once we accept Christ but then we don’t change our minds and our hearts, we won’t go anywhere. We will remain the same as before. Never discovering what we can do with the Lord by our side.

As young Christians in the world we are called to set an example. Philippians 4:8 says “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.” God wants us to be happy, his laws are for our benefit. One of the biggest ways the enemy can get to us is by our thoughts. The enemy wants us to feel miserable!  While we are just thinking about gossiping about that friend, or lying to our parents, or we are just thinking about how we know we could get away with it.

Thoughts quickly turn into actions!
One of my biggest problems with my thoughts is patience with my little sister. While I don’t always say ‘You are the most annoying little thing on the planet!’ I often think it, which is just as bad. We are called to be Christ-like. Christ was pure, holy, and had never sinned. While us humans trying to copy this is impossible we are still told to try.  1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 says “For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.”

Our thoughts come from our heart not our brain. Although its easy to blame our human brain for all our bad thoughts, the problem is in our hearts. If we didn’t feel, anger, jealousy, lust, hatred, pride, and other negative emotions we wouldn’t have any negative thoughts. Rather if inside our heart is joy, purity, worship, and admiration for Jesus, well that’s what is going to come through in out thoughts. Then eventually in our actions. So for better or for worse, we have emotion, which turn into thoughts, which turn into actions!
Are your thoughts pleasing to Lord? If not, look into your heart, make the change there and don’t blame it on being human, because we can change with the Lord’s help!
